Welcome to the Vashon-Maury Community Council

Purpose

This Council exists to help the people of Vashon-Maury Island address Island issues. The Council operates as a participatory, non-partisan forum, sometimes called "town meeting”. It aims to represent the interests of the Vashon-Maury Island community to King County and other government and non-governmental organizations in lieu of a municipal government.

Recent History

The Vashon-Maury Island Community Council was started up in late 2019, with the intent to form a 501C3 charitable organization. It has been meeting regularly since then. It became clear that the Council would be more effective for the Island if it were structured as a 501(C)4 organization, however, so we are in the process of starting up the new Council with this status. Here is the website of the Vashon-Maury Island Community Council, VMICC: vmicc.net

The new organization has a new name: The Vashon-Maury Community Council. The board members are the same for both organizations, and meetings are split between the two organizations during this time of transition. Info on the next meeting is here: vmicc.net/next-meeting/
