​A: If you are on the e-mail list, a link is sent to you at least once before the meeting. If you don’t see one by the date of the meeting, check your spam folder. One e-mail will go out 10 -11 days before the meeting. Another is usually sent as a reminder the day of or the day before the meeting. You can sign up to be on the e-mail list on the bottom of this page.

The link to our community meetings is also published on the Events page of our website. The meeting information and agenda usually goes up at least a week before the meeting. The agendas for the meetings are very detailed, and they get updated frequently with additional information useful to prepare for the meeting. They are now done as a Google Doc, so you will be able to see the latest agenda right up to the meeting.

Note: If you wish to vote at a meeting, you must become a member of the organization. Membership is free, and open to Island residents 18 years or older. Go here to join as a voting member.

A: You can call in to the meeting from your cell phone and participate that way. The call-in number for the meeting will be on the website Events page.

A full board is 12 members, because it takes a lot of work to run the organization. More people are needed to step up to join the board and/or volunteer to help run the organization.

Please consider submitting a self-nomination form for a position on the board. You can make a huge difference to our Island community. Here is a link to the Self-Nomination Form.

A: If you are 18 years old or older, and reside, even part time, on Vashon-Maury Island, you may become a member. Residents 18 years and older may vote on all issues which come up at the monthly meetings of the community council.  Go here to fill out the form. Membership is free, and there is no obligation to attend meetings or volunteer.

A: Una vez que sea miembro con derecho a voto, puede proponer una moción en una reunión durante el período de debate abierto. Nuestra isla ha tenido un consejo comunitario de forma intermitente desde 1933. En sus inicios, el Consejo ayudó a detener construcciones ilegales y la recalificación de un complejo de apartamentos; contribuyó al establecimiento del servicio de autobuses locales de la isla a cargo de Metro; impulsó las reparaciones del muelle de WSF y la mejora del servicio de ferry; y ayudó al condado a realizar su Estudio y Plan Integral de Uso del Suelo y Zonificación. Muchas de nuestras organizaciones clave de la isla comenzaron como ideas —luego comités— del Consejo Comunitario, antes de independizarse. El Comité de Protección de Aguas Subterráneas, Vashon Household y el apoyo inicial al Distrito de Parques de Vashon son algunos de los ejemplos más conocidos. En una ocasión, el Consejo Comunitario alquiló un ferry de pasajeros y llevó a los isleños a Olympia para protestar por el deficiente servicio de Washington State Ferries.

Más recientemente, el Consejo ha desempeñado un papel fundamental en la organización de ayuda y apoyo para nuestra maltrecha Oficina de Correos, ayudando a eliminar el concepto de "pago sustitutivo" del plan integral del Condado de King y, más recientemente, llamando la atención sobre el Programa de Cableado para Árboles de Puget Sound Energy.

A lo largo de los años, el Consejo Comunitario ha resuelto muchos problemas de la comunidad mediante el debate público y ha permitido a los isleños expresar sus puntos de vista sobre asuntos de interés, como un puente propuesto, viviendas asequibles y el futuro centro de tratamiento de adicciones.
