About the event
Please join us for our September 19th Community Council meeting, to be HELD AT THE VASHON PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 17708 Vashon Hwy SW, and On Zoom. Please attend Via Zoom if you can. We don't want to have to turn away people at the door.
Highlights for this meeting: Vote on Endorsing the Thunderbird Treatment Center, Vote on community meeting with King County re: Zoning, call for Board Candidates, and much more...
Join us at 6:30 for networking before the meeting. The meeting runs from 7-9pm. Highlights:
- We will spend an hour on a community discussion about the Thunderbird Treatment Center. If you wish to speak during this time, you will need to either sign up in advance on a sheet at the entrance to the meetiing, or attend via Zoom and raise your hand electronicially. We will add up the number of people total who wish to speak, and divide the hour we have into X minutes per speaker. This way, everyone who wishes to speak will have some time, but it may not be much.
- We will discuss and vote on a motion to endorse the Thunderbird Treatment Center: "The Vashon-Maury Community Council endorse[s] the effort to bring Thunderbird Treatment Center to Vashon as soon as possible, given that the addiction crisis is a reality on Vashon-Maury Island as well as in King County."
- We will discuss and vote on a motion that "The Vashon Community Council [is] to write to the King County Council and County Executive, asking them to conduct and attend (in person or via Zoom/on-line) a public meeting to allow Vashon residents to share their thoughts and concerns about how zoning changes in the County Council’s striking amendments to the King County Executive’s proposed 10-year Comprehensive Plan would impact their lives and the island community. It is requested that the meeting take place within 20 business days of the passage of this motion.”
IMPORTANT: In order to vote, make, or amend a motion, you need to be a member of the Community Council. Membership is free, and there is no obligation to attend or donate. Go here to fill out the membership application.
