have a say in your community
Is there a topic you'd like to discuss at the next Council meeting? Are you interested in starting a new committee? Join the Council and make a difference right here at home!
This Council exists to help the people of Vashon-Maury Island address Island issues. The Council operates as a participatory, non-partisan forum, sometimes called “town meeting”. It aims to represent the interests of the Vashon-Maury Island community to King County and other government and non-governmental organizations in lieu of a municipal government.
The name of the street you live on is, in part, thanks to the Community Council! Local bus service, ferry dock repairs, cessation of illegal developments as well as the current Town Plan and many other Island needs and concerns that involved interaction with governmental officials have been the focus of the Community Council since 1933, with a break from 2001 until 2020. This public forum has always encouraged all voices to be heard and considered.
