UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE
DATE: 9/9/2026
MEMORANDUM FOR: VASHON, WA, 98070 Postal Customers
SUBJECT: Notice of Discontinuance Feasibility Study of the Burton Station
Dear Post Office Customer:
This letter provides notice that the U.S. Postal Service is conducting a discontinuance feasibility study on the proposed permanent closing of the Burton Station.
A discontinuance feasibility study is a review of retail and delivery operations of a postal facility. The study includes evaluating customer needs and postal productivity and efficiency. For example, the study takes into account that, over time, customer postal needs have changed dramatically. Many customers demand easier, more convenient access to Postal Service products and services where and when they want them: online on their smart phones or other electronic devices, and at the stores they frequent. They may pay their bills online and communicate via email and texting, but still rely on the Postal Service for mailing packages and certain personal correspondence and for receiving important medicines, consumer goods, government notifications, and other mail. These considerations will be reviewed as part of the discontinuance feasibility study.
Burton Station was placed under emergency suspension because the lease being terminated by our lessor, and there are no suitable alternate quarters available. Since the suspension, postal products and services have been available at Vashon Main Office located at 10005 Sw 178Th St, Vashon, Wa, 98070.
The permanant closing of Burton Station will not result in any changes to services currently being offered at Vashon Main Office.
Our valued Post Office (PO) Box customers will continue to receive their mail at the Vashon Main Office. If a decision is ultimately made to permanently close the Burton Station, the customer status of those with PO Boxes, as well as other customers, simply changes from temporary to permanent in our system, and customer PO Box numbers and ZIP Codes remain the same. Retail hours at Vashon Main Office are 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday, and 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Saturday.
